Project Highlight: CBRE's 1-of-1 Pin Table
WINNER: iF DESIGN AWARD 2026
DCBolt Productions, in partnership with CBRE, Imerza, and Prof. Seungwoo Je's team at the School of Design, Southern University of Science and Technology, has been awarded the iF DESIGN AWARD 2026 for the Shape-Shifting Pin Table—a revolutionary dynamic estate scale model and map generation device.
This award-winning installation redefines how urban data is visualized and shared:
-
A reconfigurable motorized pin-array converts spatial, temporal, and programmatic datasets into tangible, physical topographies.
-
Integrated projection mapping and a low-barrier interface make analytics intuitive and accessible.
-
Enables planners, educators, communities, and stakeholders to prototype scenarios, compare options, and make faster, evidence-based decisions in collaborative settings.
Jury-recognized for its originality and impact: "Inspired by the digital age’s surge in hardware–software data visualization, the concept is realized as an original, engineered system... making urban analytics immediately legible and usable for collaborative planning, participatory engagement and faster, evidence-based decisions."
Launched in 2025, this project exemplifies DCBolt's expertise in merging cutting-edge tech with purposeful, human-centered design.

13 MONTHS FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION
THE PROJECT
When CBRE’s Washington, D.C. team approached DCBolt and Imerza, the request was ambitious and unprecedented: create an entirely new way to visualize commercial real estate development.
The vision was a fully immersive, interactive system centered around a Dynamic 3D actuator pin table—a physical surface capable of shape-shifting in real time to represent terrain, density, and massing studies—enhanced by precision projection mapping and real-time digital rendering. No such solution existed in the commercial real estate industry.
DCBolt got to work.
Over a 12-month development cycle, DCBolt partnered with a specialized engineering team from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, China to design, prototype, engineer, test, and refine the system from the ground up.
Just 13 months after the initial concept discussion, the fully realized platform was installed inside CBRE’s Washington, D.C. office—an extraordinary innovation timeline for a first-of-its-kind technology.

THE SYSTEM
The final solution integrates four advanced components into a single, seamless experience:
1. Curved LED Visualization Wall:
Anchoring the environment is a 16.2’ x 8.4’ constant-curve LED wall with a 1.2mm pixel pitch, delivering a resolution of 3840 x 1800 (6.9 million pixels). Powered by Imerza’s real-time, game-engine-based rendering platform, the LED wall provides photoreal environments that synchronize dynamically with the physical model in front of it.
2. Dynamic 3D Actuator Pin Table:
Positioned in front of the LED wall is the engineering centerpiece: a 10' x 10' custom-built Dynamic 3D actuator pin table composed of 4,900 individual pins, each driven by its own custom motor assembly.
Constructed from over 6,000 pounds of material, the table physically reshapes itself in real time—translating digital data into tangible topography and development massing studies that clients can see and interact with from every angle.
3. Precision Projection Mapping System:
To bring texture, data, and visual context onto the shifting surface, DCBolt integrated six HD ultra short throw projectors, each delivering 1920 x 1200 resolution.
Together, the projection system outputs 13,824,000 pixels mapped directly onto the moving pin surface using Light Act’s proprietary projection mapping software. An integrated infrared camera tracking system continuously recalibrates the image, ensuring perfect alignment between projected content and the dynamically shifting terrain.
4. Automated Alignment & Control:
An infrared camera system tracks the pin positions in real time, automatically maintaining pixel-perfect projection alignment—even as thousands of actuators move simultaneously. The entire experience operates as a unified ecosystem, seamlessly synchronizing LED content, physical motion, and projected imagery.
A New Medium for Real Estate:
Combined, the LED wall and projection system deliver over 20.4 million pixels of immersive visualization power, merging digital rendering with kinetic physical modeling in a way never before deployed in commercial real estate.
The result is not just a presentation tool—it is a new storytelling platform. Advisors can manipulate terrain, density, and development scenarios in real time, transforming abstract data into an immersive, tactile experience that fundamentally changes how commercial real estate is communicated and understood.
